Special Birthday Prompt #TankaTuesday Weekly #Poetry Challenge No. 316, 4/18/2023

WELCOME TO #TANKATUESDAY!

短歌 火曜日

Today is my 65th birthday, and I’ve got a special prompt in mind… but first:

In case you missed last week’s poetry, here are the poet’s links from the 4/11/23 Photo Prompt challenge:

This week’s challenge is to create a syllabic form with 65 syllables, or a combination of words that amount to 65. Remember we have an entire week to write our poem.

A chōka is 55 syllables, so this is within our realm of knowledge. You could write a haibun or tanka prose that amounts to 65 words. Think about how to arrange your stanzas (or not). YOU GOT THIS!!

Name the form, and tell us how to write it! I’ll add these new forms to the challenge cheat sheet so we can write them again. 🎂 🥳

Be creative. Surprise me!

  2. Happy Birthday! I turned 65 last summer. I guess you’re spending your days wading through, and tossing, the piles of the “welcome to old age” junk mail! 65 syllables… I’m glad we have a week to work on that!

  8. I should have come to post it directly here.
So here I am. For you. The only rule this poem followed is the 65 syllable requirement.

    “I’m Of Little Fame”

    I’m a country flower
Humble from my toes to my mane
    Each day is coronation
    The garden is my domain
I thrive in a nook in the grass
    Calm as the calmest dawn
Ask the birds and bees 🐝
🐝 from where they get their brawn
    Dandelion is my name
    I’m of little fame.
