Welcome to our weekly poetry stars’ celebration. This week’s challenge was to write our choice of syllabic poem, using a form from the cheat sheet or a syllabic form from the Poetscollective.org.

This week, our challenge was to write a syllabic poem using the image provided by Lisa Fox. I liked the spooky quality of this photo, as if you can sense spirits are hanging about the grounds of this mansion. We got some great poetry this week. Have a read.

This week, I chose David’s poem “The Bridge, or: the Voice” to feature. David picked up on the mood in this image and told a mini ghost story. I really like this form too. Another new form to try!

The Bridge, or: The Voice

Before me, one way to go; stone spread, long and straight.
There, I uncertain linger, hand upon steel gate;
An eerie scene.
Fir trees dull grey, reflections black, pale bridge ghost white;
Feel nary weak breeze waft... chest- straining, tight...
'Tis too serene.
Somewhere, time-stopped stillness hints at love and loss;
Turn back, murmurs faint voice, 'tis not your time to cross,
The gateway's sealed.
Clarity sweeps through me, under hushed, cloudless sky;
Feet turn, lungs exhale, dark allayed as I-
Feel despair yield.
