WordPress Woes #2

text

So, here is what I learned from WordPress…

“Looking over your comment settings here, I am seeing that you have it so that visitors can leave comments without filling out their email or name. To change this, you will want to go to: https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion/ your blog → Turn on “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail.”

As you see below, I selected “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail. I’ve never had this selected on my blog and the issue never came up until yesterday, when everyone’s comments came through as anonymous. I don’t know if this will fix the issue. We shall see.

The other setting I found was through users/settings/notifications: Enable Browser notifications. I don’t know if this will help anyone (or myself).

Of course WP says these settings are nothing new. I don’t know what to say about that. The problem didn’t exist until yesterday, when wp.com was unaccessible for about a half hour. I think they did a hard reboot of the system which kicked in all these new settings.

Eugi sent me some links:

It appears JetPack is no longer part of the WordPress mobile App on my iphone. Instead, I installed the JetPack App and can now receive comments from my phone.

Please let me know if this helps you receive comments. Once again WP has changed the editor and not given us instructions on how to use it. Let me know if you can comment now. ~Colleen~

  1. The way they simply drop these changes in without warning boggles my mind. To people who post often and read daily, it’s a giant pain. I hope your problem is fixed.

  2. I’m facing these problems in commenting on other posts.

Right now, your site is asking for email id and name before I post. At times, I have to re log in, though I’m already logged in.

  3. This explains why I’ve been having so many issues with WP lately. It’s been a frustrating ordeal at times. I still don’t get the whole jetpack thing, but I’ll figure it out. Thanks for shedding some light on this, Sis❣️

  4. Oye! What a mess. All this technical stuff that many of us don’t even choose to know about. Thanks for sharing your woes and investigations with us Sis. I’ll smile when I hit ‘post comment’ here and see it! ❤

        1. I got the MacBook laptop in January 2016 and the iMac in January 2017. I’ve done some clean-up on it, and it seems to be running faster. With Safari, the issue is the open tabs. So, I found something called Startpage at start.me: https://about.start.me. It gives me a place to put all the links I visit most. I love it. I also changed my ad blocker. I think that was slowing my mac down big time! There are big Mac updates coming in September/October, so I think I’ll hang on as long as I can. 💜
