Daily Tanka 11/15/2021

metallic sky clouds
November's seasoned pallor,
gold leaves surrender
stained imprints on the sidewalk,
fossils of the past summer

  1. I agree, that last line is wonderful – using fossil adds a depth and dimension that makes the mind add a greater degree of time, distance and separation from the present moment captured in your richly evocative tanka. Really wonderful wording throughout – it certainly makes me think of imprints and skeletons, and it also adds a lovely tonal cascade – as if we’re both walking through the season, the leaves and the golden richness, while knowing that everything comes to an end. Okay, I’ll stop now. I’m being wordy. 😉
