“From Mud,” 99-word Poetry

The Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction, October 14, 2021, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less), write a story embraces the mud. What is the mud, real or metaphor? How does it transform a character or place? What happens? Go where the prompt leads! EXTENDED DEADLINERespond by October 26, 2021.

I’m in a Poetry Oracle mood and the words almost formed themselves today. It’s that kind of a day. ❤

“From Mud”

Breathe in the daffodil-yellow moonshine glow
as dawn's sacred songs wander like a sweet water stream
through the dark-colored rocks to the rapids below,
where magic smolders in the beauty of the moment.

Wander deep inside this thick verdant forest garden
where the moss-rock green spirit world
meets the darkness with pure light,
where sun sweetened songs play in harmony
as peaceful night moon lichen blooms
in a fertile Eden sanctuary,
born from spring rains and winter's mud.

Therein lies the enigma of nature's rebirth...
each periodic cycle originates from soil and moisture
and terminates with air and fire.

      1. Yeah it was a great read. The book is coming. I can’t wait to finally share it with editors at beginning of November. But I have ALOT to tweek before then. One moment I like it, the next I don’t. Then there are times I just want to toss the entire manuscript, then I’m loving it again. I guess this is all part of the process. I miss you guys too. I’ll be back properly next month but I’m learning to balance blog with all this. So I’ll read a bit more now,🤞🏾

  1. Yup… that’s the process. It sounds like you’re a seasoned pro. Until you get another set of eyes on the manuscript, it’s always a toss-up. You’re almost there! Bravo for all your hard work. ❤

  2. This reminds me of my time deep in the Pine Barrens of NJ… all the green growth, moss and the constant wet ground. It was beautiful and peaceful there. The smells… I will miss the air. You really painted a great picture for me of one of my favorite memories.

  3. “From Mud,” Like the sunrise from darkness, Like the truth brought to light, I rise. Not that I was destained to, But because I’m always in it. So, I rise. Not because I’m so strong, Not that I know all it takes, That I rise. But I’m always on the run, Chasing it, a lion chasing a prey, Yes, I rise. I know,I remember, it’s within me, But it never bogs me down, And so, I rise The empty stomach,an empty tin The hungry house, the air space But still, I rise. A certificate of isolation by people, A forest of mocking words But oh, I still rise And here I’m, strong,a king on his Throne Yet “from mud”
