Word Weaving No. 1: A Word Craft Journal of Syllabic Verse – The Moons of Autumn

Today is launch day! As of yesterday, Amazon listed The Moons of Autumn as the number one NEW Release in Asian Poetry and number six in American Poetry. Many thanks to everyone who ordered early. The Kindle version is available on 10/1/2021, and the print version should be available today or the next day. Amazon controls the release of the print version. I’ve stressed about the release date all week!

Many congratulations to the poets and the outstanding poetry we received from new and established voices in our poetic community. It’s been a pleasure to put together this collection. Many of you have never had poetry published before, so Jules and I offer our congratulations to you!

Word Weaving is a yearly poetry journal, and for our first issue, we bring you poetry crafted from a broad mix of new and established voices across the spectrum of Japanese and American syllabic poetry forms. Enjoy this collection of poems that celebrate the Moons of Autumn. Contributing Poets:

Jules and I had a hard time picking only one poem to feature as the ‘Best of Issue.’ After many deliberations, we broke the list out to our three favorite poems by D. L. Finn, “Moon’s Magic,” a haibun Idyl; Merril D. Smith, “Harvest Moon,” a shadorma sequence; and a gogyohka by Ken Gierke.

In the end, we chose Ken Gierke’s gogyohka as The Best of Issue poem.

As a bonus, we featured the best of issue poem on the back cover of the print book.

We wish to thank all the poets who submitted poems. Now that the book is published, we encourage ‘you’ to post your accepted pieces on your blogs. All rights revert to the respective author/artist upon publication. If you republish your poem, we would appreciate a mention that Word Weaving was the first place of publication. In early 2022, we will update everyone on the proposed date for the first Word Craft: Prose & Poetry Contest. The proceeds from the sale of this journal will go towards funding a first prize, and two honorable mentions. By then, we will have established rules and forms for the contest.
