WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!
Welcome! Check out the NEW main menu item: Poetry Book Publishing Links to find poetry book publishing links, including links to literary journals and poetry magazines accepting submissions of poetry. If you know of a link to add to this list, let me know by email to tankatuesdaypoetry@gmail.com. ❤
It’s the fourth week of the month! Are you ready for a theme prompt? Kat from last month’s challenge picked the theme:
“Pick a Flower” and using one of the syllabic forms we use, tell us why it is special to you.“

On the Monday recap, I’ll select someone to choose next month’s theme.
For this poetry challenge, you can write your poem in the forms defined on the cheat sheet:
Here are some sites that will help you write your poetry and count syllables
This site even has a link so you can install the extension on Google Chrome.
For Synonyms and Antonyms. When your word has too many syllables, find one that works.
Find out how many syllables each word has. I use this site to compose my poems. Click on the “Workshop” tab, then cut and paste your poetry into the box. Click the Count Syllables button on the button. This site does the hard work for you.

The RULES
- Write a poem using a form of your choice: haiku, senryu, haiga, tanka, gogyohka, haibun, tanka prose, renga, solo-renga, cinquain, and its variations, Etheree, nonet, shadorma, Badger hexastich, and Abhanga. The first of the month challenge, you can write whatever syllabic form you choose, but not this challenge.
- Post it on your blog.
- Include a link back to the challenge in your post. (copy the Https:// address of this post into your post).
- Copy your link into the Mr. Linky below (underlined with a hyperlink).
- Please click the small checkbox on Mr. Linky about data protection.
- Read and comment on some of your fellow poets’ work.
- Like and leave a comment below if you choose to do so.
The screenshot below shows what Mr. Linky looks like inside. Add your name, and the URL of your post. Click the box about the privacy policy (It’s blue). As everyone adds their links to Mr. Linky, you can view the other submissions by clicking on the Mr. Linky link on the challenge post. All the links will show in the order of posting.

Follow the monthly schedule listed below:

I’m still on that hiatus, but look forward to reading the entries!

Hi, Colleen. Hope you’re doing great. Been busy over there at NaPo and loving it. The prompts set my mind a-racing every day.
May I consult something with you here, please. There’s this point in ‘the rules’ that I haven’t figured out quite yet. You say: “”Copy your link into the Mr. Linky below (underlined with a hyperlink).”” but I fail to see the underlined Mr. Linky in this page. I hoover over everything and nothing.
I’m slow this way. The other times when I did find it to post my published link was after a series of ups and downs, clicking different places on several of your published posts. (i’m finding it difficult to locate) Help!
How do I get to Mr. Linky on THIS page? Kindly advice. Thanks.

See the finger pointing to the small icon on the page? Click that icon. I know it’s small but it’s free so we work with it. You have to edit out the link that is in there. Highlight it and hit delete. Then, you can add the link to your post so we can find you. Does that help?

Hi Colleen, I love the theme of flowers. That hard part was picking which flower! I chose a Haibun this time to satisfy the journalism side of me. 🙂 https://tchistorygal.net/2021/05/02/tanka-tuesday-223-pick-a-flower/

Good to be back. I had my hands full with Becky B’s and my computer problems. But I’m back. I’ve missed my Tanka parties. 🙂

I missed you too. I’m getting close to publishing Word Craft so if I’m gone you know I’m in the Amazon jungle. LOL! 😀

I figured you were very busy with your book. Is Debby ok? I haven’t heard from her in ages and I haven’t stopped by because of reading so many posts having to do with the challenges I’ve been doing recently. My interview series has started back up again with a bang. Let me know if you want to do a follow-up after your book gets done.

Debby’s husband passed away last month and she’s coping as best she can. It’s hard to start over again, but that’s where she’s at. I’ll let her know you asked after her. Yes, thank you! I’ll let you know when I get closer. Thanks so much, Marsha. You’re the best. ❤

I wondered if that was what happened. Poor sweetie. I know she is heartbroken. What can I do?

Just connect with her on FB and keep checking on her. She needs us to help her through this time. That’s what I do. ❤️❤️❤️
