Frank Tassone is buried in three feet of snow! For his Haikai challenge #177, this week he asks us to write our favorite haikai poem (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) alluding to either:
- Still Cold (yokan)/New Year (Shinnen)
- Mardi Gras/Ash Wednesday

Light on the snow is blinding!
Yes! We’d just come in from shoveling. I was snow blinded for a bit.

Haiku Happenings #3: Colleen Chesebro’s latest haiku for my current #Haikai Challenge!
Thanks so much for the challenge and the share, Frank. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. <3
My pleasure, Colleen! 😇
Don’t forget to add your link to Mister Linky! 😉
I’ll do that right now. <3
😃
I can’t remember when I last saw snow. But the light, yes! I remember that!
After our snow the other day, the light was blinding. The snow glittered and sparkled. Pretty, but hard to shovel. Thank goodness for snow blowers. 😀 <3
I don’t envy you !
Oh, it’s not that bad. I like it here. Much better than Arizona. ❤️
It would kill me, I think xx
Oh, I’m sure it would be a shock to your system! 😅☃️❄️
Certain!
Not sure where it’s coming from, but we are supposed to get another ‘dump’ of white stuff staring over night and into tomorrow. Hubby is building a ‘shelter’ for our heat pump. Just sort of a lean-to to keep the majority of snow off the top of the unit. Kinda tough when you really only have one source of power and it is all electric.
Keep warm!! ((Hugs))
OH NO! We got hammered. I hope it moves off shore quickly. Stay warm. Thinking of you guys. <3
It is just 32 F now at about 4:30pm.
Hopefully ‘He’s’ almost done.
It’s 20 F now and another-10 tonight. 🥶 Stay warm. ❤️
I like the contrast of the snowlight with the luminescent snowflakes. And you know how cold it is when the snow crunches!
Thanks so much. You’re Right! It was -10 degrees here in East Lansing this morning. It was cold! 🥶❄️
You live in East Lansing?? It’s a small world. I live near Grand Haven.
We just moved here from AZ. We have friends who live close by. It was time to be nearby friends. I’m from Milwaukee, WI so this feels like home. ❤️
Welcome to The Big Mitten.
Thank you! I love it here. There’s something about Michigan. I love the people too! ❤️
I’m still giving this deeper thought🙏🏾🧡
The snow insulates the sounds in neighborhood… it’s that stillness I wanted to capture. The crunch of tires in the snow means it’s really cold. ❄️🥶
Oh, I have never been in a winter so can only relate so much.🙏🏾😔😌
I figured that, Jude. It’s a different experience for sure. 😀
It just started up again here. The great thing is I don’t have to go anywhere, or do anything!!! 🙂
Pat
Yay, Pat! That’s my life too! It’s great watching it from this side of the window! 😍❄️
Yeah! Let snow, let it snow, let it snow! LOL!!
I think this second storm has missed us. We’re just cloudy. Have fun watching the snow. Cuddle up with a good book! <3
Definitely 😀
Perfect capture of “still cold”, Colleen! As long as I am on the inside looking out, I don’t mind the snow.
I so agree. Even the gray skies aren’t that bad when you’re inside. <3
Well captured Colleen!!! ❤️
Thank you. 🥰
indeed and to you as well!🙏🥰
🥰
