WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!
It’s the third week of the month! Time for a #PhotoPrompt
Jude, from Tales Told Different, selected the photo for this month’s challenge. Clearly, his love for romantic poetry is evident in his selection. However, don’t let that be your only guide. Think about what is going on in this image. What do you sense is happening? Be creative.

On the Monday before the next challenge, I will pick my favorite poem from this week’s challenge and share it on my blog. Whoever I pick will choose the photo for next month’s challenge! Email your selection to me at tankatuesdaypoetry@gmail.com a week before. Thank you!
PLEASE support the other poets by visiting blogs and leaving comments. Peer reviews help poets perfect their writing craft. Remember… sharing is caring.
For Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge, you can write your poem in the forms defined on the Poetry Challenge Cheatsheet (click the link below):

Poetry Form Cheatsheet
Here are some great sites that will help you write your poetry and count syllables
This site even has a link so you can install the extension on Google Chrome.
For Synonyms and Antonyms. When your word has too many syllables, find one that works.
Find out how many syllables each word has. I use this site to compose my poems. Click on the “Workshop” tab, then cut and paste your poetry into the box. Click the Count Syllables button on the button. This site does the hard work for you.

THE RULES
Every Tuesday I’ll post the challenge early enough so everyone can see it. Remember, there will be no recap.
The rules are simple. Write your poetry on your blog.
Do a link-back by placing the HTTPS:// address of the challenge post into your post. ALSO, please copy your poem and add it to the comments. If you created a Haiga, let us know in the comments with a link to your post. Now, all of the poetry ends up on the challenge post in one place.
Follow the schedule listed below:

I will visit your blog, comment, and TWEET your POETRY.
If you add these hashtags to the post TITLE on your blog (depending on which poetry form you use) your poetry may be viewed more often on Twitter:
#Haiku, #Senryu, #Haiga, #Gogyohka, #Tanka, #TankaProse, #micropoetry, #poetry, #5lines, #Haibun, #Prose, #CinquainPoetry, #Etheree, #Nonet, #Shadorma

Hi Colleen,
Thank you for running the challenge. Thank you Jude for the picture.
Here’s my take :-
Thank you all for stopping by and reading.
Would I fathom ?
Do I bottle up my feelings,
Or let them run amok?
Whom do I trust,
When to give things a rest?
Fathom would I?
Poetry form :- Gogyoka ( five-line, untitled, Japanese poetic form)
(P.S :- Trying Gogyoka for the first time, please let me know, if I’ve done it correctly, thanks. )

Hello, Kitty. So the Gogyohka is actually the Japanese version of the Tanka in English (5/7/5/7/7). Ideally, you follow the same rules for the Gogyohka as you would the Tanka, except for the syllable count. My interpretation of the syllables is that you would use less than the Tanka in English, but that’s not an absolute. Each line of Gogyohka consists of one phrase with a line-break after each phrase or breath. You don’t want to forget the pivot (usually the third line). The pivot is where the meaning applies to the first two lines, as well as the last two lines. If you can read your poem backward and forward you’ve written it correctly. I hope that helps. ❤

Hi Colleen, here’s a brace of gogyoka, I couldn’t resist getting in on this as well
The times call for reconciliation
Mother nature yearns for her prodigal sons and daughters
How far humankind has strayed
A child hurting its mother
Yet still her bosom longs for our return
She heeds the call
Mother’s voice singing in the wind
Mother’s voice humming deep within the earth
Mother’s voice whispering through the trees
I love you

Hi Colleen and thanks Jude for the beautiful image.. another Double Etheree…and I hope I have done the image justice. ♥
Double Etheree – Beneath the Redwood
Young
maiden
auburn haired
waits patiently
for friends to arrive.
In this secluded place
protected by the redwood
a fairy kingdom flourishes.
Mythical and magical beings
only visible to those deserving.
This child with kind heart shared with all she meets
and a vivid imagination
was a welcome guest to their home,
bringing with her special gifts
of scented wildflowers
to line their burrows
and much desired
fresh honey
for a
feast.
