Crafting Poetry One Syllable at a Time
Decades after his poetry and short stories were published in the early to mid 1800’s, we still respect, revere and admire the writings of Edgar Allan Poe, celebrated master of the macabre, suspense and horror.
Within this collection of found poems, David Ellis has examined the collected poetry works of Edgar Allan Poe and crafted new poetry that will move you and inspire you as much as the original works themselves.
In this book, you will find many new ways to appreciate the words of Edgar and his distinguished poetic works, as he influences a passionate poet who is keen to breathe modern day life into his magnificent words.
Poems like The Raven, Annabel Lee, Lenore, A Dream Within A Dream, Alone and many other literary gems are used as foundations that pave the way for a whole different kind of intimate poetic experience that will surprise you time and again.
For Poe fans, this collection is an essential purchase. Edgar Allan Poe may be long gone, but within these pieces, his spirit continues to shine and live on.

“See A Dream Within,” is a collection of poetry created by the author using a form called “Found Poetry.” That means the existing poems, stories, plays, and other written works by Edgar Allan Poe are the source materials. The author then removed certain words or phrases to create new poetry.
This is a fascinating poetic form. I gained a rare insight into the author’s psyche by reading the new interpretations of Poe’s work.
For me, the best way to experience the differences between the two poems was to read the original works and then to read Ellis’ “found poetry.”
In visions of the dark night
I have dreamed of joy departed—
But a waking dream of life and light
Hath left me broken-hearted.Ah! what is not a dream by day
To him whose eyes are cast
On things around him with a ray
Turned back upon the past? That holy dream—that holy dream,
While all the world were chiding,
Hath cheered me as a lovely beam
A lonely spirit guiding. What though that light, thro’ storm and night,

So trembled from afar—
What could there be more purely bright
In Truth’s day-star?
The joy of life and light
Cast on things with a past
While all the world, cheered and trembled
What could be more purely bright?
Truth
Ellis, David. See A Dream Within: Found “Poe”try Based On The Collected Poetry Works Of Edgar Allan Poe (p. 2). Independently Published. Kindle Edition.
Ellis shares his poetic inspiration, realized from the writings of the master storyteller and poet by infusing them with his own perceptions. I took my time with this book, enjoying the journey between the two interpretations. There is a profound gentleness in this author’s prose.
I’ve also enjoyed Ellis’ other books, too. Lovers of all poetry forms will enjoy this literary remix of Poe’s work. It’s priced right at only $.99.

It’s quite lovely. I did look up the original poem as compared to his for my own purposes. I too, love Poe. My favorite class in college was British Literature. We studied Poe in great detail along with many other poets. Toughest class I ever took! ❤️
