WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!

Hi! I’m glad to see you here. Are you ready to write some syllabic poetry?
This week you have a choice. You can write about the #Theme of Thanksgiving (thankful, grateful, family, etc. whatever that word means to you)
OR
here are your two words for this week:
“End & Hurry”
HERE’S THE CATCH: You can’t use the prompt words! SYNONYMS ONLY!
PLEASE support the other poets by visiting their blogs and leaving comments. Sharing each other’s work on social media is always nice too.

For Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge, you can write your poem in one of the forms defined below. Click on the links to learn about each form:
CINQUAIN & the variations on Cinquain-Wikipedia
Here are some great sites that will help you write your poetry and count syllables
This site even has a link so you can install the extension on Google Chrome.
For Synonyms and Antonyms. When your word has too many syllables, find one that works.
Find out how many syllables each word has. I use this site to compose my poems. Click on the “Workshop” tab, then cut and paste your poetry into the box. Click the Count Syllables button on the button. This site does the hard work for you.

THE RULES
I will publish the Tuesday prompt post at 12: 03 A.M. Mountain Standard Time (Phoenix, AZ). That should give everyone time to see the prompt from around the world. The RECAP is published on Monday and will contain the poetry from the Poet of the Month and any Honorable Mentions.
You have one week to complete the Challenge with a deadline of Sunday, at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) Phoenix, AZ, U. S. A.
Follow the schedule listed below:

Let’s try something different. It would be great to see everyone’s poetry on one post. I’m trying to find a plugin that will help us with this issue. Stay tuned.
In the meantime…
Instead of a link-back, copy and paste your poem in the comments. This will work except for Haiga poetry. In that case, copy the link of your poem in the comments and let us know that it’s a Haiga.

As time allows, I will visit your blog, comment, and TWEET your POETRY. I have also been sharing some of your poetry on Facebook.
If you add these hashtags to your post TITLE on your blog (depending on which poetry form you use) your poetry may be viewed more often:
#Haiku, #Senryu, #Haiga, #Tanka, #micropoetry, #poetry, #5lines, #Haibun, #Prose, #CinquainPoetry, #Etheree, #Nonet, #Shadorma
You may copy the badge I have created to go with the Weekly Poetry Challenge Post and place it in your post. It’s not mandatory:

Have fun and write some poetry! Don’t forget to copy and paste your poem in the comments!

Coming
To a close
Autumn rushes
Towards turkey feasts
Thanksgiving and Advent
And then merry Christmastide
Full of joy, indulgence and gifts
Our bank accounts strain from the effort

Blessing
We gather together. We close our eyes, unlearning the darkness.
We are listening to what happens. When we don’t interfere, when we let go, unbe, untry. When we release our expectations.
We hold everything as if it weighed nothing, as if it could fit into anything at all.
What we are. Not what we think. Not what we fear.
The stillness of grace,
carried by stars on the wings
of birds. We listen.

What a fun prompt Colleen, thank you. I have done an Acrostic poem about the history of Thanksgiving.
Hopefully they travelled
Across the Atlantic Ocean
Praying for safe delivery
Pleased at first sight of land
Yearning for all they had left behind
Thankful to be safely delivered
Hopeful of a brave new world
Aching in soul and body
No one shirked their duties
Kindred spirits they worked together
Spring, Summer and Autumn brought their hardships
Giving thanks to their God
Indians watched them from afar
Vainly struggling in a hostile world
In fear they struggled but
Never giving up they reached harvest
God saw them through and they gave thanks.
*****
Well Acrostic poem is not within our remit so I also did a Tanka.
Thanksgiving Tanka
It comes to a close
The year gently closing down
Only to speed up
Thanksgiving with family
It all ends so happily.
Have fun everyone.
Here is my actual post.

Your fragrance fills the air

Lovely choice Colleen and I have gone for the Thanksgiving theme.
Etheree – Thanksgiving by Sally Cronin
This
week has
me thinking
about the things
I am grateful for.
I have many blessings
on the material side,
but they fade away to nothing,
compared to the greatest gifts of all,
our health, and love of people around us.

A new take on an old theme this week,
Hare, knew the result
was a foregone conclusion
no point in rushing,
the triumph of the tortoise

Hello Colleen- Happy Thanksgiving! I have been down with a toothache but since my root canal yesterday, feeling a lot better. Here is my butterfly cinquain on Grateful:
Grateful
Grateful
for simple times
strolling in autumn rain
storm laden charcoal clouds, fleeting
sunbeams
peeking through foggy atmosphere
God’s eyes shimmering in
sacred light of
grey dawn

Thankful Tidings (Double Etheree)
A
Crystal
Flurries down
Rushing to meet
A man made of white.
Top hat upon his head
Eyes of coal, a carrot nose,
Mittened hands, endless snowball fights
Days of youth, returning within us.
The bustle of the holiday season.
The coming together of family,
Dearest to our hearts, celebrating
A thankfulness, many blessings
Each one, a mere fragment, of
Years gone by, call to mind
All who have gathered
Bringing with them
Tidings of
Great joy,
Love

I’ll probably be writing more about Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I wrote an etheree with the word synonyms.
On
the edge–
fall to winter
burnished gold now
fading, almost gone.
Cold north winds sigh and moan,
Blowing time forward. Squirrels dart,
scamper over oak’s bare branches
gathering acorns for tomorrow
and tomorrow—till spring bursts into bloom.

Hi Colleen,
Been trying to email you…couldnt figure it out so here is what I wanted to tell you . On page 70 of the compliation that poem attributed to me is not mine. it was a photo prompt and my poem is Compromise…here is the link to what I wrote
https://thoughtsandentanglements.wordpress.com/2019/09/17/tanka-tuesday-compromise/
below the surface
hidden in these reflections,
lives of compromise
where ocean water meets fresh –
overcoming, adapting
