WELCOME TO TANKA TUESDAY!

Did you know that poetry books are all the rage right now? Have you ever heard of a poetry chapbook?

The Alliance of Independent Authors shares a fascinating article about self-publishing something called a chapbook (a U.K. term), which is a pamphlet here in the U. S. These chapbooks are only about 20 pages long. A full poetry collection is about 50 pages plus in length. Think of all the fun poetry you could write and publish.
Check out the TOP 100 FREE Poetry Anthologies on Amazon HERE
I also like the idea of short stories or flash fiction intermingled with poetry. Some of you who draw and create your own art could also incorporate your poetry with your own images. Do you realize there are 52 weeks in a year? If you took each of your weekly challenge poems and incorporated them into a book, you could publish a book each year! What other ideas do you have?
The article is worth a read if you are interested in publishing your poetry in a book form. Here is the link: https://selfpublishingadvice.org/poetry-chapbooks/

It’s the middle of the month challenge ~ time for a photo prompt!
This month we will use a photo prompt chosen by last month’s “Photo- Prompt” Poet of the Week ~ Diana Peach.

Use the above photo as the inspiration for your poem. Ask yourself questions about what is portrayed in the image. What do you see? Be creative!
A couple months ago, Jane Dougherty and I came up with a fun idea. Whoever is chosen as the Photo-Prompt Poet of the Week will choose the photo for the next month’s photo-prompt challenge.
You can use Pixabay or any other creative commons photos – just give attribution to the photographer. If you would like to use your own photos, just let me know that. Please email the photo NLT 3 days before the next month’s photo challenge.
PLEASE support the other poets by visiting their blogs and leaving comments. Sharing each other’s work on social media is always nice too.
This challenge is for Haiku, Senryu, Haiga, Tanka, Haibun, Etheree, Nonet, Shadorma, and Cinquain poetry forms. Freestyle rhyming poetry is not part of this challenge. Thank you. ❤
For Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge, you can write your poem in one of the forms defined below. Click on the links to learn about each form:
CINQUAIN & the variations on Cinquain-Wikipedia
Here are some great sites that will help you write your poetry and count syllables.
This site even has a link so you can install the extension on Google Chrome.
For Synonyms and Antonyms. When your word has too many syllables, find one that works.
Find out how many syllables each word has. I use this site to compose my poems. Click on the “Workshop” tab, then cut and paste your poetry into the box. Click the Count Syllables button on the button. This site does the hard work for you.

THE RULES
I will publish the Tuesday prompt post at 12: 03 A.M. Mountain Standard Time (Phoenix, AZ Time). That should give everyone time to see the prompt from around the world. I publish the RECAP on Monday. It will contain the Poet of the Week and any Honorable Mention poetry.
You have one week to complete the Challenge with a deadline of Sunday, at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) Mountain Standard time – Phoenix, AZ, U. S. A.
The rules are simple…

As time allows, I will visit your blog, comment, and TWEET your POETRY. I have also been sharing some of your poetry on my Facebook Author Page.
Click here to follow me on Facebook.
If you add these hashtags to your post TITLE on your blog (depending on which poetry form you use) your poetry may be viewed more often:
#Haiku, #Senryu, #Haiga, #Tanka, #micropoetry, #poetry, #5lines, #Haibun, #Prose, #CinquainPoetry, #Etheree, #Nonet, #Shadorma #PhotoPromptPoetry
You may copy the badge I have created to go with the Weekly Poetry Challenge Post and place it in your post. It’s not mandatory:

I thought I left a comment here, Colleen, but I don’t see it. If it shows up in spam, just delete it. I’d forgotten about the prompt and was so excited to see it! Now I must write something for it. And I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Thanks.

Sometimes WP does that to me too. They just decide that on some random Monday, everything I write is spam. *Sigh*. Well, I’m glad you checked. I’ve been trying to read all the responses which has been great fun. 🙂

Thanks, Liz. Poetry is undervalued. We are all capable of writing lovely thoughtful prose and poetry. It’s a good exercise for our brains. 😍❤️

Great fun! I’m really interested in the chap books, too. I’ve been combining my poetry with short stories and flash fiction. I think that helps to break it up. ❤

We’re back to adding links and doing linkbacks. I approve all of my messages and with the time diffence (8 hours to Europe) eveyone thinks I’m ignoring them. Also, if someone has never linked to my blog before, WP doesn’t recognize them. It’s great fun, Robbie. 😀 LOL! ❤

Thank you.

Welcome! You post your poem on your own blog. Then, cut and paste it in the comments on the challenge post. We’ve figured this is the best way for everyone to see each other’s work. That way all the poetry is found on the challenge post. ❤️
