Crafting Poetry One Syllable at a Time
December is Poetry Book Review Month
In ‘A Journey of Life through Poetry’, Dorinda invites you to join her, as the wonder and awe of the Earth inspire her, bringing her visions to you through her poetry. Experience the setting sun, share in the challenges and victories of life, await the new day, and find yourself lost in the lush forest trees, as you join her on her journey, through Passages and Paths.
“Passages & Paths – A Journey of Life through Poetry,” is filled with the prose and poetry of Dorinda Duclos whose love of nature and of the world of make-believe makes this collection shine.
Nature poetry is my favorite. If an author can make me see the world from their perspective, my poetic reading experience is greatly enhanced. The author accomplishes that and more. Her cadenced prose often rhymes in just the right spot, allowing the reader to sense a more profound meaning by the encounter with the verse.
I found many of these poems were filled with the word images and magic of dragons, fair maidens, and things that have no earthly explanation. I also sensed that this anthology of poems brings the reader closer to the places the author holds dear.
My favorite poem, “The Enchanted Spell,” read like a fairy tale. This poem shares the story of a young woman searching the woods at night for her lost love with the help of her lantern and her owl. The flow of the writing is magical and ethereal. There’s a great twist at the ending, which made this poem a real stunner.
I received this collection as a gift from the author. My reading experience was so enjoyable, I had to share my thoughts. There’s a gentleness in this author’s writing that beckons the reader to slip into her world if only to stay for a little while. By the end, I was sorry to go!

I do, to the point of having a very specific visit from one adorable owl, who perches on my shed and let’s me take his picture 😊

I’m fascinated with different species of owls around the globe. I can’t pin point my favorites because they all are beautiful with different features. Dorinda, your owl is your precious and I settle with my baby hummingbird.
