Here is my Etheree poem for this week’s poetry challenge using the word “slip” for fall, and “endeavor” for the word, try. This poetry form is now part of the challenge.
Slip Into Mabon
Slip
into
Mabon and
celebrate the
rituals of the
season by sharing food,
counting one’s hidden blessings,
honoring the mother goddess,
filled with an endeavor to succeed
by remembering our ancestor’s truth.

What is an Etheree Poem?
I’m adding another poetry form to Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge starting September 25th, 2018. It’s called an Etheree Poem.
The lovely Hélène Vaillant from Willow Poetry has been creating a poetry form that I had never seen before. Take a look at her poem HERE.
I researched the form and here is what I learned:
The Etheree poem consists of ten lines of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 syllables. Etheree can also be reversed and written 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. The trick is to create a memorable message within the required format.
Poets can get creative and write an Etheree with more than one verse, but the idea is to follow suit with an inverted syllable count.
Reversed Etheree Syllable Count: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Double Etheree Syllable Count: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10, 9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

I know. I used to write poetry. It’s not an easy form. I think the most difficult form I ever tried was a pantoum (made even more difficult because I made it rhyme). I was quite proud when it was done. Then I lost it in a catastrophic system failure. (Lost a lot of fiction, too.) I haven’t really written much poetry since. But you’re right; the etheree is a tough one. You did a great job!

I think writing poetry uses a different part of your brain. I’m convinced it helps me in my fiction writing. ❤️
Hi Staci, I have written one pantoum poem. I didn’t make it rhyme though. I have also written three villanelle poems. My trick is to think of the repeating lines make sense in all the stanza. I haven’t done Etheree, it looks hard.

I can believe it! The difficult part isn’t getting the lines of the right length, but to get them to mean something by the end of the poem.

Wow, isn’t this exciting to discover new poetry forms. Trying them out is not as easy as it seems….you are so right about that Colleen. You did such an excellent Etheree with your poem above. It is exceptionally well written, creating a colourful image to your reader.
