Crafting Poetry One Syllable at a Time
Welcome to the Tanka Tuesday Poetry Recap featuring the work of poets from around the globe. If you would like to participate in this challenge, you can learn the rules on the menu item called Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Guidelines.
Each week, I like to highlight a poet, called the Poet of the Week, that I feel has shared an exceptional message, or shown an impassioned creativity through words or form. Poetry is all about perception, so don’t be shocked if you don’t feel the same way about a poem that I do.
This week, I’ve chosen John W. Leys as the Poet of the Week, from his blog, Darkness of His Dreams.
John’s Tanka is called “Visions.” I like the way the words flow painting a picture in our minds. The last two lines grab you, changing your perception of the first three lines. What a great technique!
Possessed by visions,
Unwilling and unwanted,
Beautiful nightmares
Of terrible, wonderful
Truths, changing our perceptions.

I am honored, Colleen. Glad you liked the tanka. I wasn’t sure it turned out that well, but, of course, I never am 😉
