Welcome to my contribution to my Weekly Poetry Challenge, where you can write your own Haiku, Tanka or Haibun using the prompt words of “heat and confuse.”
Instead of the word heat, I used zeal. For the word, confuse, I decided to use, blurring. Synonyms are your friends when writing poetry. Don’t be afraid to use thesaurus.com to find new meanings to the prompt words.
The heat shimmers in ripples above the daisies bowing their heads in respect to the glory of the afternoon sun. I pause in my trek, overwhelmed with the splendor of the scene. I turn my head and listen to bees droning as if performing a sacred rite during their pollen spreading journeys as they flit from blossom to blossom. The heady scent of the undulating grasses fills me with a giddy joy. I smile and reach my hands toward the sky, thankful for the warmth of the sun upon my face. Without warning, the memories of a different time and place flood my senses, catching me off guard. Doubt shadows my thoughts.
My turmoil grows –
blurring my zeal for the truth
l am lost, not found.
I long to live in the light
to find my true destiny.

It’s amazing how you can be stunned by a memory. The mind is a strange (and awesome) thing. Lovely, Colleen. (And you did use heat in the paragraph.) 🙂

I’ve noticed I sometimes use a couple forms of the words. That’s how versatile the words are. Pretty cool. 😎
